The Kaye-Smith Laser Room will soon have a Xerox 1000 Digital Color Press in place of the existing Xerox iGen3. This upgrade will extend qualities such as improved color consistency and smoother coverage across press sheets.
Utilizing low melt, Emulsion Aggregation (EA) dry ink and new fusing technology, the1000 prints an even wider color gamut that can produce vibrant images with smooth sweeps. Running all weights at rated speeds of 100 ppm, the 1000 Press delivers one of the widest ranges of media handling – from a lightweight 55 gsm to a hefty 350 gsm.
The EA dry ink technology uses no fuser oil, giving applications a smooth offset-like finish. Chemically grown, its small, consistent particles produce great quality with less EA dry ink, for smooth transitions. The unique properties of EA dry ink are also environmentally friendly.
The 1000 Press prints at 2400 x 2400 dpi for excellent sharpness and uniformity and delivers outstanding mid-tones, crisp text, pure neutrals, detailed shadows, bright highlights and excellent photo rendering. Diligent testing has shown this digital press to be highly repeatable. Color test samples generated by Kaye-Smith personnel have been very consistent over periods of days and weeks.
When asked about the new unit, Eric Cranmer, Kaye-Smith Laser Supervisor had this to say: “The new machine appears to be a better fit for the type of work we currently run on the iGen3, and the new technology makes for more consistency in color from day to day. Also, it’s not as sensitive to environmental changes, meaning we shouldn’t have issues when the humidity drops below 20%. The current iGen3 operators are excited about the new machine because the maintenance will be minimal compared to what they deal with now and setup and run times should be reduced.”
The new digital press is expected to hit the Laser Room floor by mid-September. Stay tuned!
